Egyptian
Glass-and-gold Ornaments
Using ancient techniques,
glassblowers in Cairo create these shimmering ornaments by hand. Molded
glass was made as early as 1200 B.C., and excavations at the el-Lisht archaeological
site, just south of Cairo, reveal vessels that were decorated by applying
swirls of precious metal to still-hot glass. These modern accents reflect
that tradition, as artisans hand-paint the translucent color and add 24-karat
gold swirls. Whether destined to become heirloom Christmas ornaments or
colorful sun catchers, they continue age-old craft traditions. Handmade
in Egypt. Approximately 4"H. $39.00 each |
